Introducing The Optimalist

theoptimalist.substack.com

Hello, and welcome to The Optimalist, a newsletter exploring how to create optimal learning experiences for everyone. I am excited to have you with us to take on this important challenge; so before we even begin I have to say thank you. We can’t take a single step forward without you next to us.

But I guess first we should answer…

What is an Optimalist?

Our definition of an optimalist is someone who has high expectations, embraces reality, and knows that they can always adapt their goals (and themselves) as they experiment. They continue to iterate, understanding that meaningful progress is messy.

But they don’t just talk - they build. And that's exactly what we’re doing. We are developing something new, and part of that effort is the newsletter before you today. Some of you have already been part of this journey, and we are endlessly grateful for the energy you have dedicated to helping us think so far. Now, we’re excited about the potential of this new product to help create focus and the conditions for optimal learning in each student.

What Can You Expect?

We see you as optimalists. You are part of a growing movement to enact change in education, and you know better than anyone how difficult it is. This is like a gathering of a community of innovative educators and supporters who know that it’s important to take risks in order to move forward. Therefore, you can expect this newsletter to bring you think pieces - like the problems with engagement and the concept of flow - opportunities to collaborate (including a new Twitter conversation!), and even live-audio round-tables.

We expect that this will continue to evolve. Every week or so you can look forward to fresh perspectives and new chances to get involved

It is our hope that each time you open one of these letters you will find something you you can’t wait to talk about, or connect with someone you can’t wait to talk with.

Do you already have an idea? Don’t hesitate to leave us a comment!
